There are solutions to debt problems
What important information must be provided for fair debt collection?
A creditor must give the borrower complete details of the debt and other important information, including:
- How long the payment has been overdue;
- Debt-collection fees;
- A telephone number for making payment;
- Channels for requesting advice; and
- Complaint rights, procedures and channels.
A guarantor must not be asked to pay before the borrower, except where the borrower is bankrupt or cannot be contacted.

What should you do if you owe several creditors?
- Contact your creditors to request debt restructuring and provide complete information about all of your obligations.
- Each creditor will consider your overall debt burden and propose conditions based on your repayment capacity while allowing sufficient funds for living expenses.
- Contact the Debt Clinic.
Can debt be restructured again?
If your debt was restructured before it became non-performing but you can no longer keep up with payments and it has now become non-performing, you may still request another restructuring subject to the applicable criteria.

What to know before negotiating debt restructuring

Early repayment without a prepayment fee
You may settle your debt early without a penalty for early loan redemption.

Debt can be adjusted: restructuring before and after non-performing status
Do not face the problem alone. Restructuring is available:
- At least once before the debt becomes non-performing; and
- At least once after the debt becomes non-performing.
