How Does Climate Change Affect Us?

In recent years, many people have observed rapid changes in the world around them: extreme heat, unusually heavy rain and more frequent natural hazards. These are among the effects associated with climate change, often discussed in connection with global warming.
🌡️ Effects we can experience
1. More severe floods and droughts
Seasons can become less predictable, with excessive rainfall in some areas and prolonged dry conditions in others. These changes affect daily life and the economy, particularly agriculture.
2. Greater extinction risk for some species
Changing temperatures and environments can reduce or alter natural habitats. Some species may be unable to adapt quickly enough and could face extinction.
3. Emerging diseases and the spread of pathogens
Unusually hot or humid conditions may support the growth or spread of certain pathogens and disease vectors, creating additional risks to human health.
4. Reduced food security
When soil and water are affected by extreme weather and natural hazards, food production can become more difficult, increasing the risk of long-term shortages.
🌱 Everyone can contribute
Although no single person can stop climate change immediately, everyday choices can help reduce emissions and environmental impacts, for example:
- reduce the use of single-use plastics;
- choose public transport or cycling instead of a private car where practical; and
- save energy at home by switching off lights and air conditioning when not needed and choosing energy-efficient appliances.
