Five Ways to Protect Yourself from Money-Stealing Apps

Reports of fraud are now common in Thailand. Victims may find unauthorised charges on credit or debit cards, money taken through malicious applications, or funds missing from their accounts without their knowledge.
No one wants this to happen to them. The following five precautions can help you respond to the risk of malicious applications and unexplained transactions.
Five ways to protect yourself from money-stealing apps
1. Do not click links in SMS messages, LINE messages or emails from unknown or untrusted sources.
2. Do not download applications from sources other than the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
3. Always keep your mobile banking applications updated to the latest version.
4. Do not conduct financial transactions on a rooted or jailbroken phone, or on a device whose operating system has not been updated.
5. Regularly check your account for unusual reductions in the balance. If you become a victim, provide accurate information to the relevant officers so that the issue can be investigated promptly. If you notice an unusual transaction, contact your bank's call centre or branch immediately.
